Washington, DC, July 1, 2022 - Assistant professor, Sarah Doerrer PhD, OTR/L, CHT, CLT, attended the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand, International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy, and Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand Combined Congress in London, United Kingdom from June 6 - June 10, 2022.

During the event hosted by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the British Association of Hand Therapists, Dr. Doerrer and Dr. Cindy Ivy, OTD, OTR/L, MEd, CHT, from Northern Arizona University presented research, "The Impact of COVID-19 on Hand Therapy Practice.''

Dr. Doerrer has spent most of her career working in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. The presentations were based on two surveys completed in April and December 2020. She revealed that stress levels, health delivery models, and caseloads all changed for hand therapists due to the pandemic.

“I was eager to meet other therapists from across the globe and make connections! It was an enjoyable event and I can’t wait for the next Congress, in March 2025, because it will be hosted in Washington, D.C.! Hopefully some students from our inaugural class will produce capstone research that will be accepted and then they, too, can present on their findings,” said Dr. Doerrer.

Dr. Doerrer’s recent publications that were presented in London can be read here: Impact of COVID-19 on Hand Therapy Practice, and the Follow Up Survey.
