How long will it take to complete all the required courses?
The program can be completed in 2.5 years by taking 2 courses for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
How many courses do I take each semester?
We recommend that each student take 2 three-credit courses for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. However, some students take 1-3 courses each semester.
What is the application process?
Once you have a completed application, you will be invited for an interview. During the interview, we will learn more about your interests and motivation for pursuing an online pOTD degree. It will also give you a chance to ask questions about the program and faculty.
Are there any on campus requirements?
No, everything is 100% online. From GW registration to the capstone colloquium, we facilitate everything online. GW SMHS has a strong foundation in delivering online curriculum; our faculty are experts in this mode of learning and are supported by the Instructional Media & Programming to Advance Media Collaboration & Teaching (IMPACT) team.
I am looking at multiple programs, why GW pOTD?
All of the faculty are Fellows of American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) demonstrating their commitment to research and evidence-based practice. We have strong expertise in research methods which means you will be an expert consumer of research to then apply it to practice. The GW pOTD program threads Knowledge Translation throughout several core courses and we have a full elective on this topic. Knowledge Translation enables the pOTD student to curate materials for their administrators, colleagues, patients, and/or families to translate evidence into digestible information for a specific audience. Finally, you have four electives to tailor the program to meet your needs. Some of our students emphasize their learning by taking courses in teaching and learning to enter or strengthen their role in academia, health care quality, clinical research, or integrative medicine. With a breadth of online programs, we have access to an extensive network of programs at GW SMHS.
